Sooo…
Today is taking apart day.
I opened the head. Removed the battery tray, unscrewed the 4 big screws (car tool size screwdriver needed) and the 4 metallic ones keeping the board. Here it is what is behind. Exactely what I thought could be.
One single motherboard. Taking 7.2V to 9V current and controlling the two motors involved. Here it is the heart, under the LCD there is an ATMEGA processor.
Inside the head is like I supposed to be. Straight, direct, genuine. It is a very low ingeneering process, for the ensamble of the head itself, thought for low number production, easy to repair, to modify and mantain. And VERY, VERY CLEAN!!! It fullfilled my expectation of an U.S.A. style project and product, with some of its minuses, but ALL of its advantages.
I say getting the space to SOLDER anything on the large, clean and spaced micro switches will be more than easy. It could be done even finding space for a radio reciver INSIDE!
Soldering the wires for RC battery (EPIC original style) will be easy and non-destructive. The battery holder itself can be removed and space clean out.
Some of these holes is for sure a port where to put wires for ATMEGA reprogramming… 😉 Maybe a serial interface, or even a USB?? But that is beyond my comprehension.
Again, whoever projected the technical part of this head, did it with intelligence, made a clean and clear job, that deserves respect. Now, following my “I Void Warranties” motto, I’ll try to get this baby functional to my needs!
